LANDSCAPE DREAM
Following is a text inspired by the photographs in the category Landscape Dream:
In the times when man could not explain the phenomena of nature with the support of science, it was still possible to create explanations for the mysteries that filled the environment and provided a framework for the events and survival of life. Patterns and coincidences took on symbolic meanings. Places could be declared sacred and given central roles in the governing order of societies. Some individuals were given preferential interpretation to spiritual beings from an invisible dimension, another world that stood above the everyday, concrete existence to which all living people are subjected.
A critical event could be explained as the expression of the will of some unknown force in another, higher reality, to which no one had neither insight nor access. Certain individuals were appointed who were given priority of interpretation, to design narratives where the causal relationship could not be seen.
Today, there are scientific explanations for many of the questions that previously confused our ancestors. We have rejected uneducated folklore for modern rationality. Spirits, witches, trolls, huldras and other beings are no longer given space. But still, the road to uncertainty is not long. Admittedly, as individuals, we take part in modern knowledge developed by others, through many stages. At the same time, they do not start from within their own observations. Our personal private thoughts can take completely different paths, stimulated by imagination and emotions. Thoughts can lead us away to mystical ideas, lead us alone into dreams that take on a life of their own.
Life is so complex that no one can account for all the factors and connections that affect us from the inside as well as from the outside. Just as whole civilizations had universal schemes of explanation, which stepped in where rationality was not sufficient, we can make up different connections on an individual level, because we are unable to comprehend the scope of everything.
Alone one enters the landscape of dreams, senses a wordless speech. Thoughts become events before they reach through the surface of consciousness. An obscure world spreads out strangely into the vast darkness of the domain of knowledge.
